REVISED: Very Important Heathrow Update

REVISED:  Very Important Heathrow Update

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) has a new bear feeding rule as of August 6, 2015.

For detailed information on this new ruling please visit their website at http://www.myfwc.com

FWC now has the capability to fine residents for “unintentional bear feeding” (i.e. leaving garbage out overnight).

“Placing food or garbage, allowing the placement of food or garbage, or offering food or garbage that attracts bears and is likely to create or creates a nuisance is prohibited after receiving prior written notification from the Commission.”

The new penalty system starts with a civil penalty of $100, and then gradually increases in severity.

Per the Heathrow Master Association Policy dated 12/14/2014, trash and garbage shall not be placed outside earlier than 5:00 am on collection day unless the garbage is placed in a Certified Bear Proof Container.

For an extensive list of Certified Bear Proof Containers, please go the http://www.heathrowcommunity.com, under documents, then go to Master Docs, then go to Heathrow Bear Proof Garbage Containers.

FWC has permission to drive the Heathrow streets at times earlier than 5:00 am, specifically in areas that bears are known to be on garbage collection days. Residents leaving garbage out overnight or prior to 5:00 am could be in violation of this new FWC ruling.

We apologize for not giving more information in the previous email.

Please govern yourself accordingly,
The Heathrow Master Association
